National Hotline Opens For Advice On Occupational HIV Exposure

A 24-hour emergency hotline, located at San Francisco General Hospital, is now available to clinicians who seek advice on how best to treat healthcare workers who have been accidentally exposed to HIV, hepatitis or other blood-borne disease.

The National Clinician's Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Hotline (PEPLine) is free, open 7 days a week and can be reached by calling 888-HIV-4911 (888-448-4911). PEPLine offers the most up-to-date data on prophylaxis for occupational exposure, and is an outgrowth of two existing UCSF programs: the Needlestick Hotline and the National HIV Telephone Consultation Services, also known as the "Warmline."
