Central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS) disorders in HIV-infected individuals may result from opportunistic infections, neoplasms and processes that appear to be primary effects of human immunodeficieny virus (HIV) itself. The nervous system may also be damaged as a result of the toxic effects of various treatments. Indeed, the majority of AIDS patients will eventually manifest one or more of these neurological conditions.
