The Sero-Strip, a rapid HIV test developed by Saliva Diagnostic Systems, Inc., scores high in overall performance, according to study findings reported in a company press release.
The independent study compared Sero-Strip's performance with five other serum immunoassays in detecting HIV-1 subtypes A through E, HIV-1 group O, and HIV-2 strains. The Sero-Strip successfully identified all of the samples except for one rare HIV-1 group O strain, officials at the Vancouver, Washington-based company said. The test's sensitivity was 99.5% and it's specificity was 100%.
The Sero-Strip HIV was also the least expensive and easiest to interpret of all of the assays evaluated, company president Kenneth McLachlan added. "Our test does not require washes, prefiltration or reagent preparation."
